Burton Peterson, 87, of Rockville, Indiana passed away Friday, November 30, 2018 in his residence. He was a retired carpenter. He was born September 11, 1931 in Poplar, Wisconsin to the late Ossian Peterson and Hildur Paulson Peterson.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years Elaine Zagotta Peterson, whom he married July 19, 1952 in Chicago; also surviving, two daughters, Kathleen (Tom) Knapke of Rockville and Susan (Glenn) Mitsch of Lowell; three sons, Mark (Sally) Peterson of Clovis, California, John (Theresa) of Danville and Dwane (Tracey) Peterson of Columbia City; 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elaine Archambault.
He was a graduate of Poplar (WI) High School. He was an army veteran serving during the Korean War in France and Germany, receiving the Army Occupation Medal and National Defense Medal. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Carpenters Union local 1005. He had five loves in his life: his God, his church, his family, his country, and his carpentry.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Thursday, December 6, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 217 E. Ohio Street, Rockville with Father Varghese Maliakkal officiating. Burial with military graveside honors by Parke County veterans will follow at Memory Garden Cemetery, Rockville. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:30 pm Wednesday with Rosary beginning at 7:30 pm at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard Street, Rockville.
